Indigneous Fashion

Mermery Designs is an Indigenous woman-owned business representing the Yurok, Hupa, and Karuk tribes of Northern California.

We are passionate about celebrating our rich cultural heritage and empowering Indigenous beauty through fashion. Inspired by the intricate designs and vibrant colors of traditional regalia, and natural beauty of our homelands, we create unique contemporary pieces that blend traditional aesthetics with modern style.

At Mermery Designs, we believe that fashion is a powerful form of self-expression, and everyone deserves to feel seen, celebrated, and empowered in the clothing they wear. Our commitment to inclusivity runs deep, woven into the very fabric of our brand.

Mermery Designs celebrates inclusivity by honoring the diverse beauty of all individuals. Our clothing is designed to flatter a wide range of body types, with styles that embrace curves, provide comfortable fits, and offer options for different preferences.

Beyond physical inclusivity, Mermery Designs promotes cultural inclusivity by sharing and celebrating the rich heritage of the Yurok, Hupa, and Karuk tribes. Our designs showcase the beauty of Indigenous traditions, fostering understanding and appreciation for diverse cultures. We believe that fashion can be a powerful tool for cultural expression and a bridge that connects people from all walks of life.

We strive to create clothing that not only looks good but also feels good to wear, empowering individuals to embrace their unique identities and express themselves authentically.

Our Mission

To share original art inspired by culture and community, and the richness of my homelands.

To celebrate and preserve Indigenous culture through fashion, while minimizing cultural appropriation.

To empower people to feel beautiful and confident.

To promote sustainability and ethical fashion practices.

Cultivating Sustainability

At Mermery Designs, our deep connection to the land, sea, culture and community inspires us to embrace ethical and sustainable fashion practices. Every piece we create is thoughtfully made, using upcylced clothing, natural materials, or our unique "made to order" approach.

Many of our upcycled pieces incorporate natural materials gathered from our ancestral homelands. Following traditional seasonal cycles, we ethically source items like plants, shells, seeds, and feathers, often collaborating with local producers and gatherers.

Our commitment to sustainability extends to our "made-to-order" manufacturing process. Unlike mass production, this approach creates garments only when a customer places an order, minimizing waste and reducing the environmental impact often associated with the fashion industry.
