Cultivating Sustainable Fashion
Mermery Designs reflect a deep connection to the land, sea, culture and community by cultivating ethical and sustainable approaches to fashion. Each of our pieces is made by up-cycling pieces or by a manufacturing process that utilizes a "made to order" production model.
Up-Cycled Fashion
Our up-cycled pieces have been redesigned and reimagined to reflect our distinct style. We take pride in locating pieces that are of the best quality. In repurposing these items we incorporate symbolism and meaning by adding in natural materials that are distinct to our heritage and ancestral territory. Most of the materials are gathered directly in and around our homelands. We follow our traditional gathering cycles for plants, shells, seeds, feathers, and furs and are always mindful not to over harvest. Materials are collected by the artist or sourced through a network of local native gathers.
On Demand Model
Our emphasis on sustainability is further reflected by employing a made to order manufacturing process. Unlike traditional mass production, this model only produces items when a customer places an order. This approach is considered more sustainable because it minimizes the negative environmental consequences resulting from overproduction.
